Janet Bentley
CEO and President

Janet Bentley was raised in Southern California and currently lives in Scottsdale, Arizona where she founded and manages Courageous Survivors. Her driving passion is prevention of child sexual abuse and to offer hope to survivors of sexual trauma.

Her memoir, “Don’t Expect Me To Cry: Refusing to let Childhood Sexual Abuse steal my life” was published in October 2018 and has received numerous literary accolades.  She has been interviewed on several podcasts and has a powerful message to share.

Janet is a member of RAINN’s (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) Speakers’ Bureau, a facilitator of Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children child sexual abuse prevention training and Arizona’s Ambassador for NAASCA (National Association of Adult Survivors of Child Abuse).


 
 

Anne McQuaid, LISAC, LPC
Board Member and Advocate

Anne is a Licensed Professional Counselor.  Anne was employed by The Meadows Treatment Center from 1999 to 2005 as a Family Counselor and a Primary Counselor.

She then opened her private practice. She was also a Supervisor at Core Recovery during that time. She returned to The Meadows in 2015 to become a part of the Alumni program and is currently doing virtual groups with Alumni of The Meadows from all over the world.

Anne also has her private practice. Anne is very honored to be part of the Board for Courageous Survivors.  Anne is also a Survivor herself.


 
 

Megan Williams, LPC
Board Member and Advocate

Megan Williams is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Arizona. She has worked with survivors in a professional capacity since 2005 and knows the devastation sexual abuse and assault can have. Megan has a passion for helping others find the hope and healing they need and deserve. 

A survivor of sexual trauma herself, Megan also works to break generational trauma and patterns with her own daughter. Being able to make the world a more resilient place, Megan wants to make sure that survivors know there is always hope and they are never alone. 


 
 

Colleen Campbell
Board Member and Advocate

Colleen is an incest survivor with 35 years in recovery. She is also a birth mother. She gave birth to a daughter in 1968 and gave her up for adoption. They were reunited in 1994 and their relationship is awesome. Her daughter is married with 2 children.

Colleen is a widow who was married for 42 years and helped raise 2 stepsons.

She has run a support group for adoption since the 80's and has had extensive therapy and various extensive body therapies. She says she is at an age where giving back is her passion, having been blessed with terrific mentors and tools that she would like to share.


 
 

Nicole Cardon
Board Member and Advocate

I was born in Salt Lake City Utah. I have five sisters and two brothers. My childhood was beautiful and was grounded in family and faith. 

I attended Brigham Young University for two years. It was there she met my husband first husband Wil Cardon. We were married in 1992. We then both transferred to schools in California. My husband attended Stanford University and I attended San Jose State University where I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature. 

Shortly after we moved to Arizona where my husband was born and raised. He worked for a fourth generation family business. I worked in corporate America for a Corporate health and wellness company.  Two years later my husband was accepted to Harvard Business School so we relocated to Boston Massachusetts. While living there I working for Bain and Company a consulting firm. I was a recruiter for them at Wharton Business School in Philadelphia.  I also earned my associates degree in interior design from American Institute of Interior Design. 

After business school we moved back to Arizona. My husband began running his family business and we also began growing our family. Over the course of the next 12 years we had five children. I stayed at home and helped my husband grow his business. We sat on several boards together. We were heavily involved in politics and community service. 

In August of 2017 my husband took his life after many years of depression. He suffered from emotional incest, among other things. 

In 2021 I remarried a wonderful man who lost his wife to cancer. We now are blending families. We have eight children together, three boys and five girls.  Currently, Six of our children are in college in Utah and we have one 14 year old at home. 


 

Mollie Flaherty
Board Member and Advocate

Mollie Flaherty lives in Tempe, Arizona and is a student about to receive her B.S. in Psychology at Arizona State University. She has worked at The Meadows as a Behavioral Health Technician since 2020. She has experience in the field assisting with research and speaking publicly about recovery and healing. 

Mollie is passionate about helping patients struggling to recover from trauma and other mental health conditions and has over 5 years of recovery herself. She is passionate about helping people heal and find freedom as she continues to do the same. Mollie is committed to continue being an advocate for mental health and making a difference in the field as she moves forward in her career. 

In her free time, Mollie enjoys traveling, hiking, creating art, and spending time with her friends and fiancé. As a survivor herself, Mollie is humbled and ecstatic to join Courageous Survivors and to work alongside all the amazing other board members.
